Volunteering for conscripts
The Soldiers’ Home and various events are attended by people dressed in green, some of whom are solid professionals working in soldiers’ home associations, some are enthusiastic and skilled volunteers. Soldiers’ home activities can be carried out in all Finnish garrisons, camp soldiers’ homes and sales vans.
Volunteers are involved in their hobby with a Smile and a big Heart, working for the benefit of conscripts and reservists. The hobby is suitable for women and men of all ages – everyone’s effort and skills are needed!
Below our members tell us what made them want to join the action!
Aino Leppä, Ähtärin Sotilaskotiyhdistys
I joined Ähtäri Sotilaskotiyhdistys inspired by my aunt in 2016. Little sister activities had just started in Ähtäri, and according to my aunt, I fit into the association because of my nature. My aunt was right, because my diligence and good math skills have been useful, for example, in cashier work.
Outi Kallio, Tampereen Seudun Sotilaskotiyhdistys
Outi Kallio, a long-time soldiers’ home sister, has worked in several locations over the years. Outi’s career as a sister started in Sodankylä, continued with the move to Oulu, and about three years ago in Tampere. Over the years, the versatile hobby has brought many new friends and meaningful things to do.
Anniina Lehmus, Säkylän Sotilaskotiyhdistys
I completed women’s voluntary military service in Säkylä in 2022 and got in touch with both the garrison and the soldiers’ home. From these times, I remember sister activities and especially the wonderful library, which unfortunately I did not have time to get to know properly. For about a year, joining the Soldiers’ Home Association was on my mind until I grabbed the bull by the horns and decided to jump into the action!
