Aino’s story
We do not have our own soldiers’ home, but the Explosives Centre in Ähtäri regularly invites us to hold a soldiers’ home canteen for refresher exercises. The point of sale is built anywhere and it is not always possible to rely on, for example, the cash register. Instead, you have to be prepared for counting in your head and accepting cash payments.
The best memories of the activities are the good discussions between the members and the joint volunteer meetings, where everyone has worked hard to achieve the common good. I have also learned tremendously from more experienced sisters. They have shown how hard work and a caring attitude can achieve anything. Through the activities, you learn to appreciate our country, the work of previous generations and how good things are in Finland. It is also nice to see that our own hobby activities bring good mood to our customers.
Of course, there is also a lot of fun in the form of sister nights and memorable encounters with wonderful members and people. Nowadays my mother is also a member of our soliers’ home association, so in our family the hobby was passed from daughter to mother.
